The theme for Unlimited Textiles this month is landscapes, one of my favourite subjects for paintings. However, I’d never tried to create a landscape using textiles. Needle felting seemed an obvious choice, especially as I’d considered making a landscape with this technique for a while. Sometimes these swaps have a way of forcing me to do things that I should have tried ages ago! I made the postcard first, based partially on the landscape of the Peak District when the heather dominates the hills. The quiltie is a completely imagined scene, but I wanted to include a structure of some sort, so I entitled this one ‘On the edge of town’. I loved doing these and may well attempt more textured landscapes in the future.
